Bird Construction (TSX:BDT) was the top-performing TSX stock for the day, as its shares jumped 11.4% to $71.88 each. This rally in BDT stock came a day after the Etobicoke-headquartered construction and maintenance firm posted strong second-quarter results, with revenue rising 22.6% year over year as all three of its major businesses contributed to growth.

Last quarter, Bird’s net profit surged 49.3% to $30.3 million, while it also reported a record $6.1 billion backlog, up 30.6% from a year ago, helped by significant new project awards and conversions from pending backlog. Strong revenue growth, higher earnings, improving margins, and a record order backlog boosted investor confidence and drove the sharp rally in BDT stock.

TerraVest Industries, Shopify, and Lightspeed Commerce were also among the day’s top gainers on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with each climbing by at least 5%.

Canadian stocks extended their rally to a fourth straight session on Wednesday after U.S. consumer inflation data matched market expectations, while investors also kept a close eye on the escalating Middle East tensions and their impact on energy markets. The Canadian stock market went sideways on Tuesday but continued to reach new heights for the third consecutive session, as investors reacted to largely positive corporate earnings while watching geopolitical developments. The S&P/TSX Composite Index ended the volatile session with a small 18-point gain at 36,476, registering a new all-time high.

While technology stocks fell sharply and weaker gold and silver prices also pressured mining shares, a rally in most other key market sectors, including utilities, industrials, and energy, helped the TSX benchmark remain in positive territory.

Shares of Cargojet (TSX:CJT) jumped by nearly 9% to $93.67 each, making it the top-performing TSX stock for the day. This rally came a day after the Mississauga-headquartered air cargo services firm reported a 15.8% year-over-year (YoY) rise in second-quarter revenue.

Cargojet’s net earnings in the latest quarter improved to $7 million from a $3.2 million loss a year ago, with the help of stronger revenue and lower net finance costs. These stronger earnings helped fuel buying in CJT stock.

Canadian equities continued to reach new heights for a second consecutive session on Monday as surging oil prices amid uncertainty about the U.S.-Iran conflict boosted shares of energy companies. The S&P/TSX Composite Index inched up by 77 points, or 0.2%, to settle at a new all-time high of 36,458, extending its five-day gain to 3.5%.

Even as sharp declines in many key sectors like utilities, consumer staples, and real estate pressured the TSX benchmark, renewed buying in energy and technology stocks kept the broader market rally intact.

Top TSX Composite movers and active stocks

Strathcona Resources, International Petroleum, Endeavour Silver, and Ero Copper were the top-performing TSX stocks for the day, with each climbing by at least 6.6%.

In contrast, Superior Plus and ATS plunged by at least 6.8% each, making them the day’s worst-performing TSX stocks.

Barrick Mining (TSX:ABX) was also among the session’s bottom performers on the Toronto Stock Exchange, as its shares slipped by more than 6% to $57.03 per share. Despite the decline, the Toronto-based gold miner reported a 44% year-over-year jump in its second-quarter revenue to US$5.3 billion.

However, Barrick’s net earnings fell 24% sequentially, while attributable free cash flow plunged 88% from the first quarter to US$141 million. Its gold all-in sustaining costs also climbed 9% sequentially, partly reflecting higher fuel costs and lower grades at some mines. Despite strong year-over-year results, the sharp sequential declines in the company’s earnings and free cash flow, along with higher gold production costs, pressured Barrick stock.

According to the exchange’s daily trade volume data, Enbridge, Telus, Barrick Mining, Suncor Energy, and B2Gold were the five most active stocks on the exchange.

On the brighter side, Curaleaf Holdings (TSX:CURA) advanced by more than 10% after posting strong second-quarter results. Its revenue climbed 10% YoY with the help of growth in its domestic and international businesses.

Curaleaf’s gross profit also rose to US$169.9 million in the latest quarter, while gross margin improved to 50%. As a result, the company reported a net profit of US$12.5 million, compared with a US$53.6 million net loss a year ago, boosting investor confidence.

Paramount Resources, Valor Gold, and WSP Global also rallied by at least 6.3% each, putting them among the session’s top-performing TSX stocks.

Adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization also rose 6% from a year ago to US$387.2 million, supported by growth in its automotive business and contributions from acquisitions. The company also raised its full-year 2026 outlook, increasing its expected gross transaction value growth to 9% to 11%. Despite these solid results and improved guidance, the sharp selloff in RBA stock suggested investors may have been expecting an even stronger quarterly performance or a larger upward revision to the company’s outlook.

Canadian stocks started the new month on a solid note as falling crude oil prices amid easing geopolitical tensions, largely positive corporate earnings, and surging metals prices boosted investor confidence. The S&P/TSX Composite Index jumped by 575 points, or 1.6%, to settle at a fresh all-time high of 35,802 — registering its biggest single-day percentage gain in over three months.

Despite weakness in some key sectors like real estate and energy, strong intraday rally in mining, technology, and industrial stocks lifted the TSX benchmark.

Top TSX Composite movers and active stocks

Southern Cross Gold Consolidated (TSX:SXGC) jumped by nearly 19% to $10.69 per share, making it the top-performing TSX stock for the day. This rally in SXGC stock came after the Canadian gold miner updated the exploration target for its Sunday Creek gold-antimony project in Australia. The company now estimates the project could contain between three million and 4.6 million ounces of gold equivalent at grades ranging from 8.9 to 12.1 grams per tonne.

Southern Cross Gold’s updated target covers five prospects across 1,500 metres of strike and represents less than 15% of the project’s broader 11-kilometre mineralized corridor. The firm also said nine drilling rigs remain active at the site, with another 135 kilometres of drilling planned through the first quarter of 2027.

As precious metals prices rallied sharply, mining stocks like Aya Gold & Silver, Trekor Metals, and Americas Gold and Silver also jumped by more than 15% each, making them among the day’s top gainers on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

On the flip side, 5N Plus (TSX:VNP), Vermilion Energy, Baytex Energy, and Bausch Health were the session’s worst-performing TSX stocks, with each diving by at least 6%.

This selloff in 5N Plus stock came a day after the specialty semiconductor materials producer posted narrower margins despite strong second-quarter revenue and earnings growth. The company revenue rose 28% year over year in the June quarter to US$122.4 million.

However, 5N’s adjusted gross margin as a percentage of sales fell to 30.3% from 34.6% due to higher metal input and chemical costs, along with temporary operating inefficiencies tied to capacity expansion. The company also warned that input and operating costs could remain elevated as the business environment stays complex.

Based on their daily trade volume, Telus, Enbridge, Equinox Gold, BCE, and Barrick Mining were the five most active stocks on the exchange.

TSX today

Metals prices extended their rally in early trading on Wednesday, which could lift the commodity-heavy main TSX index at the open today.

While no major domestic economic releases are due, Canadian investors may want to keep an eye on the latest U.S. non-farm employment and services purchasing managers index (PMI) data this morning.

More importantly, reports that the United States, Iran, and Oman were nearing an interim agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz could influence commodity prices and broader market sentiment today. The proposed 60-day arrangement could route inbound ships through Iranian waters and outbound vessels through Omani waters, while work begins to clear mines from a central shipping lane.

On the corporate events side, several TSX-listed companies, including Sprott, Brookfield Asset Management, Shopify, Thomson Reuters, Fortuna Mining, Kinaxis, Manulife Financial, Nutrien, Labrador Iron Ore Royalty, Lundin Mining, Equinox Gold, and Killam Apartment REIT, will release their latest quarterly earnings reports today.

Canadian stocks fell sharply on Friday as investors continued to watch developments in the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict, while better-than-expected economic data and largely upbeat corporate results failed to offset broad-based selling pressure. The S&P/TSX Composite Index plunged by 143 points, or 0.4%, to settle at 35,226 — its lowest closing level in more than a week.

Despite gains in healthcare stocks, steep declines in other key sectors like mining, technology, and real estate dragged the TSX benchmark down.

Top TSX Composite movers and active stocks

Telus (TSX:T) plunged by more than 11% to $13.38 per share, making it the worst-performing TSX stock for the day. This selloff in Telus stock followed the company’s second-quarter 2026 results, which included a 55% dividend reset, weaker full-year guidance, and a $2.1 billion non-cash impairment charge that pushed it to a net loss of $1.8 billion.

While Telus’s management said these moves are aimed at reducing debt and supporting long-term growth, investors reacted negatively to its lower payout and revised outlook.

TerraVest Industries, Eldorado Gold, and Southern Cross Gold were also among the worst performers on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with each diving by at least 7.5%.

Bausch Health, Baytex Energy, Gildan Activewear, and Lightspeed were the top-performing TSX stocks for the day, with each diving by at least 4.8%.

Based on their daily trade volume, Telus, Equinox Gold, Denison Mines, Orla Mining, and Baytex Energy were the most active stocks on the exchange.

TSX today

Crude oil and gold prices were largely mixed while silver and copper trended higher in early trading on Tuesday, pointing to a mixed opening for the resource-heavy TSX index.

Meanwhile, Canadian investors continued to monitor uncertainty around the U.S.-Iran conflict after Washington and Tehran issued conflicting statements about whether fresh negotiations were taking place. At the same time, Iran said it was discussing temporary arrangements with Oman for shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, while insisting that Tehran would retain control over the route. These developments could keep commodity-linked TSX stocks volatile throughout the session.

On the corporate events front, several key TSX-listed companies, including International Petroleum, RB Global, Orla Mining, iA Financial, SSR Mining, Sienna Senior Living, Dream Industrial REIT, RioCan REIT, and Suncor Energy, will announce their latest quarterly results today, which could shape individual stock movements through the session.

A much cooler-than-expected U.S. personal consumption expenditure (PCE) inflation rate, largely upbeat corporate earnings, and strong metals prices helped Canadian stocks recover on Thursday, even as investors continue to monitor the widening U.S.-Iran conflict and its impact on global energy and shipping markets. The S&P/TSX Composite Index advanced by 172 points, or 0.5%, to settle at 35,506, regaining some of the ground it lost in the previous session.

Strength in healthcare, mining, and financial stocks helped offset continued pressure on TSX energy shares as crude oil prices remained sensitive to developments in the U.S.-Iran conflict.

Softer-than-expected U.S. PCE inflation data also supported hopes that the Federal Reserve could adopt a more accommodative policy stance later this year after it recently kept benchmark interest rates unchanged while signaling a patient approach toward future policy moves.

Top TSX Composite movers and active stocks

Bausch Health Companies (TSX:BHC) skyrocketed by 28.5% to $8.43 per share, making it the top-performing TSX stock for the day. This rally in BHC stock came a day after the Laval-headquartered pharmaceutical firm posted strong second-quarter 2026 results and raised its full-year guidance.

In the June quarter, Bausch Health’s revenue climbed 13% year over year (YoY) to US$2.85 billion, while adjusted earnings jumped 40% to US$1.26 per share. The company also highlighted its 13th consecutive quarter of YoY revenue growth (excluding Bausch + Lomb) and lifted its 2026 guidance. Despite the recent rally, however, BHC stock is still down nearly 12% on a year-to-date basis.

Perpetua Resources, Energy Fuels, and Teck Resources were also among the day’s top gainers on the Toronto Stock Exchange, with each jumping by at least 8.2%.

On the flip side, Lightspeed Commerce (TSX:LSPD) plunged by nearly 13% after its first-quarter fiscal 2027 (ended in June 2026) results failed to impress investors despite topping its revenue outlook. The Montréal-based firm delivered 17% YoY organic revenue growth, narrowed its net loss sharply to US$2.4 million from US$49.6 million a year earlier, and posted higher adjusted income.

While Lightspeed maintained its full-year fiscal 2027 outlook and highlighted strong momentum in its core retail and hospitality businesses, the market appeared disappointed that it didn’t raise its guidance following the better-than-expected quarterly performance.

Bombardier, Thomson Reuters, and Boyd Group Services also slipped by at least 6.5% each, making them among the session’s worst-performing TSX stocks.

According to the exchange’s daily trade volume data, Whitecap Resources, Ivanhoe Mines, Enbridge, Telus, and BCE were the five most active stocks.

TSX today

Crude oil and precious metals prices trended lower in early trading on Friday, which could pressure the commodity-heavy main TSX index at the open today.

In addition to Canada’s monthly gross domestic product (GDP) figures, TSX investors will also keep an eye on the latest employment and revised consumer sentiment data from the U.S. this morning.

Meanwhile, escalating fighting between the U.S. and Iran may keep investors cautious before the long Civic Holiday weekend in Canada.

On the corporate events side, many key TSX-listed companies, including TransAlta, Imperial Oil, Parex Resources, Magna International, Cameco, Enbridge, Fortis, Brookfield Business Holdings, Brookfield Renewable Partners, and George Weston, will release their latest quarterly earnings reports today.
